Outdoor Living Spaces

Outdoor Living Spaces

We make beautiful, life-enhancing outdoor living spaces for private gardens and public spaces.

Clients enjoy eating outside, doing yoga, partying and relaxing in our hand-crafted structures.

Our traditional craftsmanship and beautiful materials make for a stunning setting for spending more time outdoors. From exquisitely simple decks built in our natural woodland style, to fully powered, fully plumbed, fully glazed garden buildings with our signature sweet chestnut in-the-round structural posts. We can design and build decks raised high into the trees, open to the skies or roofed with gorgeous larch shingles or traditional thatch. Perhaps you fancy a simple bench under an arbor, or office at the bottom of the garden. Maybe you want space outside to eat with friends, even when it’s raining.

The Potting Shed

We were asked to build a replacement shed for a very old structure that was being held up only by Ivy! Our clients had seen our hobbit houses and woodland classrooms and wanted a mixture of the two, creating a usable space for their potting, apple storage and general garden shed for everyday use.

The Bothy

The structure was to be a step back in time, using the same building technique’s as the houses in the village it sits in: Cob, oak, larthe & plaster, leaded glass, stone, slate, lime render and lime paint. When walking through the garden, you don’t see this structure until you come round a corner, hidden by yew trees, this was the plan.

The Design

We love designing spaces for outdoor living, each one is unique, tailored to your budget and to how you plan to use it. We can design in comfortable stairs for when you’re carrying a drink, and a fireman’s pole to get down again later. Branchy handrails at a comfortable height, or fully clad walls to keep you sheltered. We can make beautiful woven willow screens for privacy and open spindled railings for the view of the garden.

However you plan to use your outdoor structure, you’ll love being surrounded by beautiful natural materials, built with an attention to detail which makes the finished place a joy to spend time in.

Sustainability

Our materials are harvested with habitats, miles on the road and sustainability as a priority, and we are pleased that this also results in the most beauty and quirky character in the finish.

Our lovely waney edged boards are from a single estate near Bury St Edmunds, and our structural posts of branchy chestnut are sourced from a sustainable coppice in Essex.

All our structures are hand-made using traditional carpentry skills, each one is unique.
