Wilds Lodge School

Playground, Oakham

The Brief

The objective of this project was to design a play area for Cavendish Education, primarily aimed at an age range of 10-14 years old, with a high proportion of students with Autism. This was our third play area for the school, and we were thrilled to continue the journey together. We worked closely with the school’s specialist staff to gain a thorough understanding of the priorities and practicalities of providing specialist education for neurodiverse students.

The Design

The design process began with a deep understanding of the school’s unique needs and priorities. Our team took a holistic approach to designing the play area, ensuring that inclusivity and safety were key considerations, while also promoting a strong sense of community and supporting the development of children’s social and physical skills.

Using advanced CAD software, we translated our ideas into detailed drawings that accurately portrayed our vision.

The Result

The final playground exceeded all expectations, featuring a tall play structure on a hill with a cargo net, climbing wall, and fireman’s pole for energetic play.

Additionally, our carefully designed log tangle with stepping stumps and balance beams encouraged children to test their limits. We are proud of our work with Cavendish Education and excited to continue the journey with them.
